Kara Crafts, a Cardiac Physician Assistant, has always been drawn to medicine as it allows her to connect with, and help, people during vulnerable times in their lives. “I think that the most important role as a provider is educating your patients regarding their disease and treatment plan, and providing them with the best care possible.”
Kara completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science at Indiana University before continuing her education with a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies, also at Indiana University. She completed a Pediatric Surgery Physician Assistant fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of Kara’s job is getting to know her patients. “The best part about being a medical professional is the opportunity to gives to work with and provide for a multitude of people. It not only allows for practitioners to be profoundly impacted by conversations and relationships with their patients, but also allows them to generate a positive impact in a patient’s life.”
Kara and her husband recently moved to Portland. They love to be adventurous and active and were ready for a change from the flat cornfields of Indiana. While away from her medical practice, she enjoys hiking, trying out new restaurants, and traveling as much as possible.
