About Maria X. T. Kiely

"I believe the ideal surgeon is one who can communicate well, understand the concerns of patients and their families, and exercise good judgment in and out of the operating room, all while performing technically excellent surgery. My practice philosophy is to strive for this ideal every day." - Maria Ximena Traa Kiely, M,D., MPH

Dr. Kiely is fascinated by the variety of procedures and disease processes within colorectal surgery. She joined the colorectal field because she felt that there was a need for women surgeons in the specialty, especially given that women often leave anorectal and pelvic floor issues untreated due to concerns about embarrassing exams and discussions. Her favorite part about her job is that fixing even the most basic anorectal problem, like hemorrhoids, can make a big impact on a person's life – especially when also making the patient feel comfortable, at ease, and minimizing embarrassment.

Dr. Kiely received her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Quantitative Methods from Harvard, and she is passionate about practicing evidence-based medicine. Dr. Kiely is fluent in Dutch and Spanish and enjoys working with the Hispanic population.
