“I try to see the whole picture of my patients – I look carefully at what is going on with their health, home and school life, and with them emotionally and cognitively,” says Tyson Payne, psychologist with Providence Pediatric Specialties. “Then I make appropriate and achievable action plans accordingly.” Tyson supports children and families with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, anger, behavior problems, depression, and parenting concerns. He also helps patients with chronic health concerns, such as diabetes, gastrointestinal problems and pain. “I love being able to help children make changes in their life that move their trajectory in a positive direction,” he says. “I go at the pace of the patient. The patient is in control of the visit.” Tyson enjoys getting to know families and helping children see their successes. He sees his most important role as “Advocating for those who can’t advocate for themselves and giving hope to those who cannot see it.” Tyson loves outdoor activities with his wife, children and dog. Favorites include hiking, biking, standup paddle boarding, climbing, soccer, and disc golf. Tyson also enjoys music, art and anything Star Wars related.
