Christopher P. Celio, MD, is the medical director for employer wellness programs at Providence St. Joseph Health, the nation’s third-largest not-for-profit health system. An innovator in keeping people healthy, Dr. Celio is at the forefront of making wellness more personalized, effective and affordable for consumers and employer groups.
Dr. Celio’s approach entails blending traditional high-touch care with new developments like big data for better pinpointing an employer group’s health care needs. Backed by these precise data studies, his team can then deliver highly personalized plans for health and lifestyle improvement. This approach has proved successful for the Wellness Division’s clients, which include Masimo, Paramount Unified School District and Western Digital. At Western Digital, for example, program results have realized more than $1 million in savings while also improving workforce health and increasing employee satisfaction.
Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Celio has been with the PSJH Wellness Division for three years and was with St. Jude Heritage Medical Group for seven years. He has served on the board of directors of the Orange County Medical Association and the board of trustees of St. Jude Medical Center, where he chaired the quality committee.
Dr. Celio received his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE, where he also completed his family medicine residency, did post-graduate work in mathematics, and received his bachelor’s degree.
