About George H. Garcia

As the son of a physician and a nurse, Dr. George H. Garcia grew up in the Los Feliz district of Los Angeles, and attended Loyola High School. He attended Cornell University in New York and completed his pre-medical undergraduate studies with Distinction in All Subjects. He then graduated with highest honors from the UCLA School of Medicine.

After an internship at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Los Angeles, Dr. Garcia completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA Medical Center. He authored many research articles regarding disorders of the orbit, and this interest led to even more education: a prestigious two-year Fellowship in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This subspecialty complements the practice of comprehensive ophthalmology, and provides further depth of knowledge in diseases and surgery of the eye and surrounding structures.
Dr. Garcia is one of very few surgeons in Orange County to have completed a full 3 year residency in ophthalmology, then 2 more years of specialty plastic surgery training dedicated to eyelids, followed by immediate election to the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Membership in ASOPRS requires completion of a certified program, an original thesis, and written and oral examinations.
Dr. Garcia is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute/UCLA. School of Medicine. Dr. Garcia has spent years training other surgeons in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids. He was also a full-time faculty member at a major teaching hospital in the Midwest. He has won awards for his teaching, and has lectured nationally at oculoplastic surgery conferences. Since 1992, Dr. Garcia has published extensively in medical journals.

Dr. Garcia is a physician leader. He has served as Chairman of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange from 2006 to 2010, and has also served as President of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology, He is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Garcia currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Medical Association.
Named as one of the ”2008 Best Doctors in Orange County” by Orange Coast Magazine and the Orange County Medical Association, Dr. Garcia has been recognized by his fellow physicians. He was also honored as a “2008 and 2010 Physician of Excellence” by Orange Coast Magazine and the Orange County Medical Association.

Dr. Garcia has always believed that an education is most valuable when it improves the lives of others. The practice of medicine is a privilege, and it requires flexibility and patience. He has been consistently described as considerate, personable, and highly conscientious, and he strongly feels that personality and achievement are of equal importance in determining the true ability of a physician. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have received an exceptional education, and I look forward to providing the finest care possible.”
