As a child, Dr. Garcia was always very curious and as a student, his favorite subject was physiology where he was able to understand how the body worked. This fascination coupled with his love of working with people made it easy for him to choose a career as a physician.
Dr. Garcia finds it a gift to help others and truly enjoys his role as a physician. He appreciates the importance of listening to each patient’s story and hearing their concerns and he understands that medical care is a continuous learning process. Additionally, he values the trust his patients place in him and that is the driving force why he strives to be an excellent physician.
Board certified in both internal medicine and infectious disease, he serves as a primary care physician as well as a specialist. He chose to get involved with infectious disease, particularly HIV Medicine, due to his exposure to the field from the beginning. He watched from the start when there was little that medicine could offer to today where there are multiple treatment options. He admires the progression in this field and enjoys being a part of the evolution of medicine.
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Garcia has been in practice for over 35 years and during that time he has treated adults of all ages. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, completed his residency at Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital, and pursued two fellowships – one in critical care and one in infectious disease.
