About Richard B. Kim
Dr. Richard Kim was born and raised in Southern California. He earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Dr. Kim’s post-graduate training included an internship and residency at New York University Medical Center and a fellowship in epilepsy surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Kim served as program director of Hoag Epilepsy Center from 2006 - 2013. In 2015, Dr. Kim became the Medical Co-Director at DISC Sports and Spine Center at the Newport Beach location, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
An active researcher, Dr. Kim has published numerous scientific articles and chapters in neurosurgical textbooks, on subjects ranging from surgery for epilepsy to complex spine surgery.

Dr. Kim’s expertise spans a broad range, beyond epilepsy surgery and complex brain mapping. He is an accomplished surgeon of the spine, with a very busy practice in cervical, thoracic, and lumbar complex surgery. Dr. Kim also helped lead Hoag’s Pituitary Tumor program, and pioneered a minimally invasive endoscopic approach to resection of pituitary tumors.
