About Dong J. J. Park

Dr. John Park is the only surgeon in the country who is double board certified ophthalmology and plastic surgery with sub-specialty fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery. He has trained at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, both of which have been ranked in the top three hospitals in the United States by U.S. New & World Report. Dr. Park performs all types of plastic surgery, specializing in oculoplastic and cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Park has a special interest in non-invasive procedures including facial fillers, and Botox. He has participated as a clinical trial evaluator for Xeomin, the newest formulation of botulinum, notable for its purity. He specializes in eyelid surgery, facelifts, cheeklifts, browlifts, and liposculpture. With his unique training background in plastic and reconstructive surgery, ophthalmology, and oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Park is experienced in caring for patients with complex problems of the eyelid, eyebrows, cheek, and face.

Dr. Park has presented his work on avoiding complications in lower eyelid surgery, different surgical approaches eyelid ptosis (droopy eyelid) surgery, eyelid retraction and scarring, small incision approaches to the eyelid and orbit, and management of facial fractures to the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has instructed other surgeons on surgical techniques in oculoplastic surgery and on orbital surgical anatomy at both national and regional meetings. His published work on Asian blepharoplasty, fat grafting, Botox, diseases of the eyelid and orbit, and thyroid eye disease can be found in respected national and international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Park has authored book chapters on eyelid and orbital anatomy, eyelid reconstruction, eyelid infections, and diseases of the orbit. His basic science contributions include the development of scientific models of the immunology of thyroid eye disease, eyelid scarring, and steroid impregnated implants for eyelid retraction and scarring. Dr. Park’s immunologic model of thyroid eye disease was funded by the University of Southern California; the research continues to be carried out by his colleagues at the University of Rochester funded by the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Park earned his bachelor’s degree in Immunology from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in three years with both Departmental and University Honors, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. He earned his medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Southern California and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He was awarded Transitional Intern of the Year as a medical intern at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He then completed an ophthalmology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, then the top ophthalmology department in the country. There, he earned the respect of his colleagues and was awarded the Outstanding Resident Award by his peers. His unyielding pursuit to further his education then took him to Minnesota, where he completed a two-year fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester and the University of Minnesota supported by a merit scholarship from the Heed Foundation (one of twelve scholarships awarded that year nation-wide). As a member of ASOPRS, Dr. Park is one of a few board certified ophthalmologists to have completed specialty training in oculoplastic surgery. After six years of residency and fellowship training in ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Park returned to Southern California where he completed an additional six years of residency training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California, Irvine to become the only double board certified ophthalmologist and plastic surgeon with additional formal training in oculoplastic surgery.
