A native of Orange County, Dr. Almaas Shaikh grew up in Irvine, California. She completed her board certifications in General Surgery and Critical Care and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery in both specialties. Dr. Shaikh became the Assistant Trauma Medical Director of St. Francis Medical Center where she assisted in the re-verification process of the Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons twice. Believing that trauma care goes beyond the walls of the hospital, Dr. Shaikh engaged in trauma prevention and intervention by taking action through trauma outreach services in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and a variety of community organizations. While at St. Francis, Dr. Shaikh assisted in the development of HAVEN – Hospitals Against Violence and the Empowerment of Neighborhoods- in order to bring hospitals together to network and collaborate to make the streets safer for our youth and help them lead fulfilling lives. From the bustling cities of Los Angeles County, Dr. Shaikh moved back to her home county and took on the role of Trauma Medical Director at Mission Medical Center in Mission Viejo in July 2015 as part of the Acute Care Surgery Medical Group. Under her leadership the Trauma Program has expanded its clinical services remarkably.
