About Caroline B. McCulley
Dr. McCulley is a second generation rheumatologist who was raised near Portland, Oregon. She graduated with a BA degree in English literature from Santa Clara University, and during college spent a year in South Africa working on various public health projects, attending university, and exploring the country. She worked for a year as a Patient Advocate, and then graduated from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) medical school. She completed her internal medicine residency at Providence Portland Medical Center, then returned to OHSU and completed her rheumatology fellowship training. She subsequently worked as a rheumatologist in a private practice in Bend, Oregon before now returning to Portland. She enjoys caring for patients with a wide spectrum of rheumatologic and musculoskeletal conditions, and is honored to be involved with medical education and training future physicians. She additionally is involved in an American College of Rheumatology subcommittee in order to affect the policies that impact rheumatologists and the care they can provide patients. Dr. McCulley feels privileged to work with patients over years to help them live the healthiest and most functional life possible, taking into account how psychosocial factors, education, nutrition, and physical activity impact autoimmune diseases and overall wellness. In her free time, she loves to run, hike, ski, read, cook, and explore new places with her husband, young son, and dog, Polly. She is honored to join the Providence Arthritis Center family and to once again be a part of the Portland community!

I have seen many, many doctors over the years. Dr. McCulley is by far one of the best. She exudes compassion, listens thoughtfully, easily admits if she doesn't know the answer to a question, and strives to help me solve my health problems. Many specialists I've seen are unwilling to think holistically about the connections between or root causes of my health issues. Some doctors have resorted to gaslighting me, telling me that I should just take an antidepressant. Dr. McCulley rises above this. I especially appreciate how she is willing to consult with my other doctors to coordinate my treatment.

The entire team at Providence Arthritis Center was great. The front desk was very polite, the medical assistant was equally polite and communicative, and the doctor was amazingly caring and considerate of the issues. Doctor McCulley spoke in plain easy to understand language when describing the issues I was experiencing and what could be causing them. She also made sure to clearly outline a plan of action for moving forward and she did not rush to a diagnosis nor did she ignore my complaints, so this was a very productive appointment altogether. I am relieved that there are still medical teams around which offer this level of great care for patients.
