Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
Welcome to the Providence Alaska Medical Center Palliative Medicine Fellowship Web site. We offer one of the few ACGME-accredited palliative medicine fellowships in the country.
The fellowship is one-year in length and is based in Anchorage Alaska. It includes experience and training with inpatients and outpatients as well as extensive community home hospice involvement.
The Palliative Medicine Service at Providence was established in 2005. It is composed of an interdisciplinary team who are committed to improving the quality of care for patients with life altering illness. Patients and their families receive supportive care provided by skilled professionals across disciplines. The Fellowship Program experience encompasses the medical, psychosocial, and spiritual domains of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
The Fellowship lasts an entire year, beginning in July. Currently, we accept only one fellow per Fellowship year. The year long program has 12 rotations, each of them having a different focus. The rotations take place at the hospital in the following areas: Inpatient consult service, Pediatrics, Radiation Oncology, Hospice, Long Term Care/Geriatrics, and an elective.
Applicants who have completed (or will complete) an ACGME approved residency in one of the following disciplines are eligible to apply: Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology, Surgery.
