Since 1965, when Covenant Medical Center opened one of the first cardiac care units in Texas, Covenant Health has been providing world-class heart care right here in Lubbock. Since then, we have been the region’s most advanced and comprehensive provider for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Now, the Covenant Heart & Vascular Institute is a six-story freestanding facility with additional inpatient services in the main building of Covenant Medical Center.
The Heart and Vascular Institute at Covenant provides services inclusive of routine diagnostic testing through complex interventional and surgical procedures. The Institute provides cardiovascular specialists with advanced, state-of-the-art technology to perform clinical procedures in the most effective and safe method possible.
The Heart & Vascular Institute is home to an expert team of medical professionals whose collective experience in heart care is second to none. Driven by Covenant’s unique mission of caring, they can be counted on to deliver cardiac care from the heart. Our team of physicians include Covenant Cardiology Associates, Covenant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and Covenant's affiliated cardiologists.
We are recognized for our responsiveness to patient needs, as well as our relationships with referring physicians. We offer a complete range of services to evaluate, diagnose, treat and educate patients about cardiovascular diseases. Our team integrates cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular medicine and vascular surgery to provide seamless, coordinated, comprehensive patient care.
Our commitment is readily proven in our Outreach Program. Our physicians and staff travel to the West Texas and Eastern New Mexico regions providing cardiac clinics in Clovis, Denver City, Levelland, Lovington, Lamesa, Midland, Plainview, Portales, Seminole, Colorado City and Snyder. In addition, our physicians provide Continuing Medical Education on leading medical treatments and technologies to medical staffs throughout the region.
Our dedication to the prevention of cardiovascular disease is evident in our clinical research initiatives. Our physicians participate in numerous industry-founded clinical trials of devices and treatment strategies designed to evaluate various new and promising therapies. Participation in these trials enables our patients to receive new therapies prior to their availability to the public.

Covenant Health maintains the only Certified Chest Pain Center in the Lubbock, Texas region. We provide 24/7 coverage for emergent cardiac catheterization and open heart surgery. The Chest Pain Center also provides community health screenings, education and support group meetings.
The Heart & Vascular Institute continues to develop disease specific programs to address community needs.
A collaboration with Texas Heart Institute providing high-tech care options such as ventricular assist devices and heart transplant. Chronic congestive heart failure is managed locally, allowing patients to increase life activity.
A multi-specialty physician service that provides patients with advanced valve disease options previously not available locally. Procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) are performed in the Hybrid CVOR. Other structural heart disease procedures are vetted by the valve team to provide the most optimal care available.
A multi-specialist physician team of interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons that collaborate on best clinical options to treat aortic aneurysm. Abdominal and thoracic aneurysms are treated endoscopically, allowing the patient to recover quicker with short hospital stay.
Encompasses advanced technology and highly skilled staff in treating atrial fibrillation and many other arrhythmia disorders.
Cutting-edge imaging and treatment options to re-vascularize vessels via minimally-invasive techniques. Highly-skilled cardiovascular specialists perform angioplasty, atherectomy and stenting to regain blood flow to extremities and carotid arteries.
A collaborative between cardiologists and oncologists to screen and treat cancer patients who may be susceptible to chemo-induced or radiation-induced cardiovascular disorders.
Accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) and located within the Covenant Lifestyle Center. This program treats post-percutaneous coronary intervention and post-surgical patients. Includes a heart failure rehabilitation program.
