Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center’s PGY-1 Acute Care Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to fulfill the accreditation standards developed by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The residency program is constructed to develop practitioner excellence in the provision of patient-specific, evidence based care and will focus on the development of knowledge and skills needed to become a competent and confident practitioner.

Our pharmacy department provides 24 hour care and offers a broad range of clinical services including order verification, antimicrobial stewardship, code blue participation, emergency medicine, adult/neonatal ICU, admission/discharge medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and consult services including: TPN, anticoagulation, and pharmacokinetics. Our program features residency-trained preceptors and robust pharmacy protocols to facilitate the development of clinical pharmacists that are embedded into interdisciplinary teams.

    Rotations are designed to allow the resident to develop the necessary skills needed to succeed in acute care practice. Rotation length may vary depending on the needs and interests of the resident.

    Residents are required to staff two weekends a month mostly in the transitions of care setting.

    • Graduated residents will be trained to be proficient in practical aspects of acute care pharmacy practice
    • Graduated residents will qualified to apply for a PGY-2 Residency or Fellowship
    • Graduated residents will be able to precept future residents and students

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance is a non-profit community hospital with 436 licensed beds. Our Centers of Excellence include our Heart Center, JCAHO accredited primary Stroke Center, Women’s and Maternal Health, and Neonatal ICU. Our nursing department is Magnet recognized and our Transition of Care Center has earned five stars by the U.S. News and World Report and is recognized amongst the nation’s top nursing homes.

We are located in the South Bay Area of Southern California (20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles) near the beach cities. Plenty of activities to indulge in during down time as we are just minutes away from the Redondo Beach pier, Stub Hub Center and numerous parks with hiking trails.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be a graduate from Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
  • Applicants must have, or obtain, a California intern license prior to starting the program
  • Residents must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the state of California

  • Salary: Approximately $58,000
