Centaurus Financial, Inc. Supports Celebration 2018

Generous supporters from across the region gathered together for an elegant Celebration 2018 benefiting the innovative cancer services programs at St. Joseph Hospital. Centaurus Financial, Inc., longtime supporters of St. Joseph Hospital, was one of the significant supporters of this year’s event. With their generous Presenting Sponsorship, more than $575,000 was raised in support of the cancer center’s navigator program, cancer research program, and the purchase of a new, state-of-the-art linear accelerator.

Cancer research, the navigator program and the linear accelerator are initiatives of the hospital’s five-year Innovating for a Healthier Community comprehensive campaign that launched in 2015. This $50-million philanthropic goal will support the growth of key programs and provide funds for advanced technology within the hospital. Keeping Moms Safe—Preventing Childhood Trauma Grant

St. Joseph Hospital has received a $142,000 grant from Healthcare Foundation for Orange County (HFOC) to expand our Maternal Depression program to ensure more moms receive the help they need for not only depression, but a full range of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) including anxiety, post-traumatic stress syndrome and other mental health challenges. When moms are not well, the wellbeing of their babies and entire families can be compromised. The risk of childhood trauma is increased. Early detection and prompt treatment for these mothers is critical.

Our comprehensive screening and treatment program already includes cognitive behavioral therapy, support groups, and, when needed, inpatient and pharmacological intervention. St. Joseph Hospital caregivers are now receiving mandatory training to identify moms with PMADs. They are learning to recognize the signs of intimate partner violence and human trafficking, and when and how to report such cases. Additionally, they are learning how to make appropriate referrals to mental health and social work service providers or community partners.

We are committed to providing the highest clinical excellence and compassionate care for the nearly 5,000 women who choose to deliver their babies at St. Joseph Hospital each year. We thank HFOC for their support of this program since 2016.

Paying It Forward...

Robert Stauffer is no stranger to St. Joseph Hospital. In fact, he was born at the hospital and this year both will celebrate a 90th birthday!

In the early 2000s, Rob made a decision to invest in the Patient Care Center through three Charitable Gift Annuities (CGA) ~ a gift of cash or appreciated assets to the hospital in exchange for a lifetime income. Last year in December Rob decided to create another CGA to support Cancer Services.

Rob says, “I believe the hospital needs support from the public. I was born in St. Joseph Hospital and have lived in Orange County all my life. I don’t want to go to another hospital. I know that St. Joseph provides quality care and I want to be sure it always will be there for me and our community.”

Geri Musgrave Names St. Joseph Hospital as Beneficiary

Geri Musgrave is a long time cancer survivor and supporter of St. Joseph Hospital and its Cancer Services. Recently she continued her support by naming St. Joseph Hospital Foundation as the sole beneficiary of her Individual Retirement Account (IRA). She also signed an Irrevocable Pledge Agreement making this gift secure for the future.

“My decision to gift St. Joseph was easy since I outlived all other family members. St.Joseph’s “family” has the expertise to provide for those in need. Many years of experience has proven their capability to increase goodness where needed.”

The Foundation is grateful to Geri for her generous support.

George Dunbar Supports St. Joseph Hospital In Creating A Legacy of Health In Orange County

George Dunbar has been a loyal patient and generous donor of St. Joseph Hospital for many years. His treating physician is Dr. Warren Johnston, so when Mr. Dunbar recently mentioned how grateful he was for the health care he had received at St. Joseph Hospital, Dr. Johnston referred him to the Foundation. Working together with the Foundation’s Planned Giving team, Mr. Dunbar named St. Joseph Hospital as beneficiary of his IRA retirement account. Mr. Dunbar feels the community needs a quality hospital like St. Joseph Hospital and he wants to support it for the community. This very substantial gift will provide a meaningful legacy for Mr. Dunbar, and also gives St. Joseph Hospital future funding to continue providing the best possible health care to Orange County.
