Epic Tip #2

Here’s another great way to leverage the autocorrecting capabilities of Epic to your advantage. By typing a few characters and then a space, the characters can be replaced with full words or phrases. This is a great timesaver for often-used words. For example, you can type the abbreviation “abx” and it will expand to “antibiotics.”

  • Link the abbreviation to the expanded word by going to ‘User Dictionaries’
  • There are multiple ways of bringing up this menu. One way it to search for ‘user’ and select ‘User Dictionaries,’ or
  • In a SmartPhrase enabled space, right click to bring up the menu and select ‘Dictionaries’

 

  • In the Spell Check Dictionaries menu select the ‘Auto Correct’ tab (third tab)
  • Add your abbreviation to ‘Word to add/update’
  • Add the full word or phrase to the ‘Replace word with’ field
  • You must then click the ‘Add/Update Word’ button, and then ‘Accept’
