Honoring St. Joseph’s Day by Elevating the Voices of Our Community

The St. Joseph Community Partnership Fund (SJCPF) addresses the root causes of inequitable systems, focusing on capacity building, education, housing, and disaster relief and resilience. Committed to caring for the “dear neighbor” without distinction, especially the economically poor and vulnerable, we partner with workers in the community to create long-term, sustainable change for movement building. SJCPF recognizes and reveres St. Joseph as a role model to, and protector of, workers and celebrates the Feast of St. Joseph on March 19th. To that end, SJCPF announces its new “St. Joseph Summit Series” in recognition and to elevate the voices and power of community leaders.

St. Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary and earthly father of Jesus Christ, was compassionate, humble, and committed to his family, morals, and work. The St. Joseph Summit Series focuses on those steadfastly working with and in community and aims to address the priorities of their community, giving them dedicated time to collaborate and mobilize with other leaders to make the most significant impacts.

“At SJCPF, we understand that systemic inequity fundamentally limits the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities,” said Gabriela Robles, chief executive of SJCPF.

“Through the Summit Series, we will honor the efforts of our community partners in alignment with the spirit of St. Joseph. We will also use the time to strategize and prioritize the needs of the communities to create positive impacts to social determinants of health and equity."

The inaugural Summit Series event will focus on capacity building in our communities. Moderated by SJCPF, the virtual event features experts and community leaders that are working to bolster their work through intentional and community responsive capacity building. Each event will include a presentation by a keynote speaker, with opportunities for networking and exchange of conversations centered on long-term community strengthening between participants. The SJCPF Team looks forward to connecting with our community partners through the Summit Series to learn promising and effective capacity building practices to inform future funding initiatives and strategies and future investments to uplift our communities’ health, wellbeing, and power.

The Fund serves as Providence’s strategic grantmaking foundation to support initiatives in the areas of housing, education, disaster response, and recovery, and nonprofit capacity/community power building, with equity and justice as our ultimate goal.

For 35 years, SJCPF operated only in California, but last year, it expanded its reach to support all regions where Providence has a footprint. The team works alongside community leaders to improve the lives of others and build a stronger, more equitable future for all.
