Deepak Sadagopan, MHCDS
Chief Operating Officer, Population Health Management
Deepak Sadagopan serves as COO of Population Health Management (PHM) at Providence, where he leads PHM initiatives across the system to transform care. This includes value-based care growth, a $50M investment in Health Equity, and Medicare/Medicaid management for quality care at more affordable prices. In addition, he serves as the CEO of Health Connect Partners, LLC, the Providence ACO serving more than 110,000 assigned members as part of CMS' MSSP program.
Deepak has more than 20 years of experience in health care, serving in leadership roles at Siemens, Quest Diagnostics, McKesson, and Edifecs. Over the past eight years, he has focused on working closely with payers and providers on the use of technology to drive business decisions making the transition from volume to value-based delivery models.
At Providence, Deepak has overseen the successful implementation of MACRA, Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), and other Medicare and commercial value-based care initiatives. Under his leadership the MSSP program has been ranked within the top 15 of such programs in the country. His team is developing an advanced data and analytics platform to support value-based care programs across the system. The team develops capabilities and processes that drive data-driven operational decisions.
Deepak is a leading voice in ensuring value-based care and Health IT policy initiatives enable equitable access to health care. He serves on the corporate boards of Spectral AI and Ayin Health Solutions. He represents a leading health system voice on the HFMA board, guiding the path to value transformation. He also serves on the FAST and Da Vinci National Steering committees to accelerate interoperability data standards. Additionally, he is a sought-after thought leader, frequently writing for peer-reviewed publications, being interviewed by business media, and speaking at health care forums.
Deepak earned his master’s degree in engineering and data science from the University of Connecticut and completed an executive management program with the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has also completed a master’s in health care delivery science from Dartmouth College.
Laura Smith
Senior Executive Assistant, Population Health Management
Laura Smith serves as Senior Executive Assistant to Deepak Sadagopan, COO, Population Health Management at Providence, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States.
She has 20+ years of administrative experience in healthcare, of which 8 have been at Providence. Prior to her current role, she supported the Chief Technology Officer in Information Systems.
Before joining Providence, Laura served as Program Manager in risk management for the Patient Safety Organization at TeamHealth with oversight on proprietary educational programs. She also served at the Tukwila School District holding a variety of positions which included management of facilities as well as head purchaser.
Laura is the founder and co-chair of the Providence Disability Caregiver Resource Group and is also the author of The Berkeley Book: A Story of Hope, Happiness, and Down Syndrome which is currently available for distribution within the Providence ministries to all parents who have a child with a diagnosis of Down syndrome.
Laura is recognized and valued as an experienced and knowledgeable professional. Her commitment and dedication to the Providence mission is evident in every facet of her work.
Angela Marith, MS
Chief Administrative Officer, Population Health Management
Angela Marith serves as the Chief Administrative Officer in Population Health Management at Providence, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States.
She is a general liaison with internal and external stakeholders and facilitates strategy design and improvement for the Population Health division. Angela leads and consults on project strategy and approach for Population Health to support efficiency, communication, and ultimately, better patient outcomes.
Angela has 20+ years of experience in health care serving in leadership roles in the areas of provider staffing, technology, change management, organizational effectiveness, human resources, workforce health, product management, and population health. Her work passions focus on organizational effectiveness to ensure real change for patient health. She is proud to be a caregiver at Providence and to contribute to the mission of serving the poor and vulnerable.
Prior to joining Providence, Angela served as the Director of Population Health at Group Health Cooperative. While there, she oversaw strategy planning, program development, project management, and product marketing. She built and led customer experience improvement solutions with many successful results including 38% improved speed of referral communications to patients. She led 9 full vendor implementations from partner selection, contracting, budgeting, onboarding, to operations. She also created a pro forma for monitoring long-term expenses and projecting revenue for Wellness Solution products.
Angela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology and a Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership. She also is a SHRM-Senior Certified Professional.
Angela enjoys traveling with her family, reading, music, hiking, playing with her kids, and going on dates with her husband. She loves to laugh, to sing, and to walk/take adventures with her friends.
Michael Westover
Vice President, Value Based Care Data Partnership & Informatics
Michael Westover serves as the Vice President of Population Health Informatics for Providence, a healthcare system comprised of 120,000 caregivers serving in over 50 hospitals and 1,000 clinics. With over 16 years of healthcare experience, Michael is an expert in the business and technology of risk arrangements and government programs with payers and employers.
Michael created and manages Providence’s Population Health data strategy and the Data as a Service (DaaS) technology infrastructure used to support over 150 risk arrangements and government programs with over $150 million in annual earnings. Michael possesses the education and experience to speak and write authoritatively on Population Health cloud infrastructure, data analytics and business intelligence, Population Health operations and finance, payer contracting, and healthcare interoperability.
Michael helped build a data integration and analytics startup named Humedica that was acquired by Optum. As a Product Manager, he designed, built, and sold web applications based on EMR and payer claims data for health systems and Life Sciences companies. He also served as a healthcare consultant with Milliman where he built healthcare web application and consulted states, large employers, and municipalities on their healthcare benefits.
Michael graduated with honors from Brigham Young University earning a Bachelor of Arts. He also holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in healthcare management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Craig Enge
Vice President, Medicare Strategy
Craig Enge services as Vice President, Medicare Strategy. He and his team oversee all CMS-direct value based care products including Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), Primary Care First, and others. Craig has been with Providence for 10 years, focusing on preparing Providence for a shift to value based care.
Craig earned his MBA from USC Marshall School of Business, and has worked in a variety of healthcare settings including within a clinic, as a healthcare strategy consultant, and at a value based care startup. He lives in the Seattle area with his wife and four children.
Jared Davis
Executive Director, Value Based Care Operations and Administration
Jared Davis serves as Executive Director of VBC Operations and Administration for Population Health Management at Providence. He has been with Providence Population Health since May 2019 in various operations and analytics roles supporting Value Based Care (VBC) performance.
Prior to joining Providence, Jared was in a performance improvement role at OHSU, focusing on Ambulatory and Outpatient operations. His career has been spent ensuring Provider systems continually improve operations and strategy to meet evolving challenges. The VBC Operations and Administration team is composed of experts in payer relations, finance and actuarial science, with a deep experience in Value Based Care. They are committed to ensuring and supporting Providence’s VBC arrangements in service to sustaining Providence’s mission.
Jared earned a Masters of Science and Engineering in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his partner Hagene Lee and two young children.
