About Patricia Nguyen

“I really care about my patients, and I want them to feel safe, well cared for and heard; those are all really important things,” says Patricia Nguyen, certified nurse midwife. “I want them to feel personally safe and I also care about the safety of their child if they are pregnant.”

Patricia is the youngest of 12 children. Birth was always a big part of her family. She had the opportunity to see one of her sisters give birth.

“It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. That sparked my interest in the birthing community. I started with a doula training, which started me down a path of wanting to become a nurse and eventually a nurse midwife.”

Trauma-informed care is an area of women’s health that interests Patricia.

“A huge subset of the population has experienced some form of sexual trauma. How we interact with these individuals can cause more trauma or we can be a safe place for them. For every patient, I explain everything, I ask permission before I touch them, and I stop if they ask me to stop. All of these pieces are really important in how we interact with patients who have experienced trauma and so I apply this approach to everybody.”

Patricia provides full-spectrum care for family planning, including counseling, administration/prescribing, and supporting patients who desire a non-hormonal methods. She also has a passion for supporting patients who are interested in natural family planning.

“Patients may desire to go the nonhormonal route or explore other methods, such as the symptothermal method,” she shares. “There is a subset of the population who is interested in other methods and these methods can also be helpful for achieving pregnancy when individuals are ready for that part of their journey.”

Patricia grew up in Seaside and was born at Providence Seaside Hospital. She lives with her husband and son in the Portland area. Her son was born in 2020, one week before the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She enjoys indoor bouldering, bike riding and day hikes. Patricia also loves spending time with her family.
