Stephan A. Castro, MD

Stephan Castro believes his most important role as a physician is "providing care that is beneficial to the patient. To do no harm. To educate the patient so that we will become partners in their future health."

During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Castro decided to practice medicine while working with patients who had previously had strokes. This experience helped him realize the impact of educating patients about their disease: it affords them a better sense of control. He emphasizes this educational approach in his practice and enjoys seeing patients get better. After his undergraduate program at Pitzer College, Dr. Castro attended medical school at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He then completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University followed by a neuromuscular fellowship at University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Castro was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area but spent several summers with family in Portland. "I wanted to pursue my neurology training in Oregon to be close to family. Living here, I have grown to love the food, hikes, and Blazers."
