Katherine L. Weyer, MD

Dr. Weyer lived all over the U.S. as a child, including Nebraska, California and Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia for her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her decision to pursue a career in medicine was inspired by her early experiences teaching high school students and caring for some of the same young women outside the classroom as a medical assistant in a women’s clinic. This made her realize the powerful role medicine could play in opening doors for those on the brink of marginalization, which led her to return to school to become an OB/GYN. She graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in Brisbane, Australia and completed her OB/GYN residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. During medical school and specialty training, Dr. Weyer was honored for academic achievement, clinical expertise and patient care. In addition to her focus on education and empowerment, Dr. Weyer’s practice has also been influenced by her childhood experience with the healthcare system, where she learned the significance of making human connections and communicating effectively and compassionately not only with patients, but their loved ones, as well. She enjoys all aspects of caring for women, but particularly obstetrics, family planning and adolescent health. In her spare time, Dr. Weyer loves taking road trips to explore new and old destinations and spending time outdoors—hiking, running, doing yoga, skiing and camping. She also cherishes the time she gets to spend with her friends and family, especially her nieces and nephews.
