Providence Provider Resources and Referrals

In addition to our primary care clinics and physicians, Providence Health & Services offers a wide variety of specialty care services, including cancer, cardiology, neurology, women and children’s services and more.

This website is intended to ease your way as you search for a specialist for your patients in the Oregon and Southwest Washington regions.

Direct Messaging is a secure, HIPAA-compliant way to send patient referrals and records electronically instead of by fax. It helps support faster, clearer communication between primary care and specialty providers.

If your organization does not use Epic, send referrals to Providence specialty departments through Direct Messaging when supported by your EHR. Include relevant chart notes in PDF or XML format when available.

Before you send a referral
  • Work with your EHR/EMR vendor or IT team to confirm Direct Messaging is enabled.
  • Search for the Providence specialist by name in your EHR provider directory.
  • Verify the provider’s name and specialty/department before selecting a Direct address.
  • Use a Providence Direct address that ends in @oc.providencedirect.org.
If you can’t find the provider’s Direct address

If your EHR does not display Providence Direct addresses or is not synchronized with the National Provider Directory, contact Providence for the latest provider directory extract.

Need help?

After working with your EHR/EMR vendor or IT team, contact Christy Rickert, MS, RN, senior business analyst, Digital Health Nursing Informatics, at christina.rickert@providence.org to coordinate the exchange of Direct Messaging addresses and schedule connectivity testing.
