Jeffery P. Bourne, M.D. practiced pediatrics in Southern Florida for ten years before moving to California in 2004. He has been serving the Santa Monica community and its children since then. As a child, it was a family pediatrician that first inspired Dr. Bourne to consider a future in medicine. While treating an older sibling for a serious childhood condition, the role the pediatrician played in his family left a lasting impression on Dr. Bourne as he got older.
During his years in school he discovered that he liked and was good at science. He also realized that he really enjoyed working with kids. Becoming a pediatrician was a natural merging of these two interests. He went to medical School at the University of Washington and then did both his internship and residency at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. Today he serves on pediatric committees for Providence Saint John’s Health Center and UCLA Santa Monica. He was Chairman of Pediatrics for five years at Providence Saint John’s Health Center.
In the practice of pediatric medicine, he really enjoys making a correct diagnosis, beginning treatment, and seeing the patients improve. He also finds it rewarding just talking to the kids and watching them grow.
Outside the office, he loves taking his children to the beach and hopes to teach them paddle boarding and kitesurfing. Outdoor adventures like rappelling waterfalls are a favorite activity. As a member of the Magic Castle, he is an accomplished magician and hopes to return to this hobby as time permits.
He seemed rushed, addressed my areas of concern but kind of blew them off in a way that made me with I'd stayed with our old doctor [...]Providence Patient

When I arrived at the office the receptionist was pretty rude regarding an issue with my insurance. I had spoken with someone the day before and she mentioned changing my provider but never anything about having to pay out of pocket during my visit that week so I was shocked to hear from the receptionist checking me in that I would have to pay out of pocket. She didn't offer and solution and treated me as if I was negligent. When you go to the doctor with your infant on his 1st birthday, I think it's important for the staff to be kind and have a gentle bedside manner - it is a pediatrician's office after all. Thankfully the other receptionist steppe din and offered me a very simple solution that would be an immediate fix. She was wonderful. Additionally Dr. Bourne was nice but very rushed. I mentioned my sons dry skin and without really looking he surmised it was eczema and quickly mentioned a few lotions I could use. I told him that I had eczema growing up due to a dairy allergy - he brushed over it and said there was no way he could have a dairy allergy. I found that odd and not comforting. I'm not sure if we will return to see Dr. Bourne.Providence Patient
