About Mary P. Defrank

Dr. Mary DeFrank was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. She attended Oregon State University, graduating with highest honors in Biology and General Science in 1985. She received her medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1990, graduating Cum Laude and was awarded the Hewlett Packard Top Medical Graduate Award. Dr. DeFrank served her internship at Good Samaritan Hospital and her residency at Oregon Health Sciences University/Casey Eye Institute was completed in 1994. She spent two years as an ophthalmologist in the Air Force before joining the Hillsboro Eye Clinic in 1996. Dr. DeFrank is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has been an Executive Board member of the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology since 1997, having served in every officer position. She currently serves as Councillor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where her duties include traveling to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to advocate for patients and ophthalmologists. Dr. DeFrank and her physician husband live in Portland with their two daughters. When not working or volunteering for international medical missions, they enjoy hiking, skiing, water activities and travel.
