Providence physicians and neurosurgeons in Los Angeles and Orange County treat brain tumors using a range of surgical and non-surgical techniques customized to each patient’s diagnosis, medical history and personal preferences. Treatments include neurosurgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.  The following is a list of just some treatment options:

  • Brain tumor removal: Surgery is one of the main treatments for brain tumors. Brain tumor surgery can provide for the complete removal of some brain tumors or the partial removal of tumors near sensitive areas of the brain to relieve symptoms or facilitate other treatments. Providence neurosurgeons use highly specialized procedures, including some of the most advanced technology in minimally invasive brain surgery to reduce complications and improve outcomes and quality of life.
  • Endoscopic neurosurgery: In the majority of cases, keyhole and minimally invasive endoscopic neurosurgerical approaches may be used. These are  less invasive, more effective, and safer than the traditional open craniotomy approach. In these specialized procedures, microinstrumentation is used along with an endoscope to remove brain, skull base or pituitary tumors through incisions made in the nostrils, or other hidden smaller openings such as through the eyebrow, or behind the ear.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery: This targeted treatment delivers a high dose of radiation to a precise location to kill tumor cells while protecting surrounding healthy tissue and organs from radiation damage.
  • Neuro-oncology treatment: Our neuro-oncology physicians provide sub-specialized care for patients who are diagnosed with malignant brain tumors and oversee the course of state-of-the-art treatments for cancers of the brain and nervous system.
  • Hydrocephalus surgery: Hydrocephalus surgery removes the build-up of fluid inside the skull.
Brain Tumor Recovery

Following your treatment, Providence helps you return to your usual activities with services to help you recover, including pain management and physical rehabilitation.

Not all brain tumors are cured by surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.  In these cases our centers offer some of the most promising investigational treatments in clinical trials.

Clinical trials help determine the future of medicine, and Providence is dedicated to bringing that future into reality. We combine the talents and skills of world-class physicians and a highly-trained research staff to make our hospitals top research centers across the western United States.

  • Spine surgery: Our neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons perform a full range of spine surgery treatments for neck and back pain as well as spinal oncology. We have the latest advances in minimally invasive robotic spine surgery to allow for faster recovery.
  • Deep brain stimulation: Our joint neurosurgery and neurology teams work together to treat Parkinson’s disease, tremor, dystonia, and Tourette’s syndrome with functional neurosurgery/deep brain stimulators.
  • Cerebrovascular neurosurgery: Treats disorders of the veins and arteries within the brain and neck.
