Sarah Bereznai, AGPCNP

Sarah chose to work in health care because of her strong interest in life sciences and the fact that medicine is a demanding field that requires lifelong learning. Both of which appeal to her academic pursuits. She is particularly interested in cardiology. She has a keen fascination with the heart and its complicated, yet elegant, physiology. By caring for the heart, Sarah believes we can help people live longer and healthier lives. During high school Sarah volunteered for a non-profit public health organization in Latin America where she worked alongside many different types of healthcare professionals and enjoyed the camaraderie of interdisciplinary work, while effecting positive change at the community level. She later became a neurosurgical ICU nurse and attended graduate school at the University of Illinois, Chicago, to become a Nurse Practitioner. Currently, Sarah is completing her doctorate at OHSU. Sarah believes when making medical decisions it is important to meet the patient where they are, meaning providing the best evidence-based care while taking into account the personal health beliefs and care preferences of the patient in order to achieve the best health outcomes. She originally grew up in the Bay Area, California, before moving to Chicago, Illinois, for medical training. With a desire to be back on the West Coast nearer to family, she moved to Portland to start her career and explore the diverse nature that Oregon provides. Sarah is an avid paddleboarder and kayaker and enjoys frequent walks with her dog on the beautiful buttes of the greater Portland area.
