About Kristin R. Stevens
Kristin Stevens, MD, PhD, feels her most important role as a physician is to be a source of education, motivation and reassurance for her patients. "Dermatology is a very visual specialty, and patients tend to be more concerned about a condition that they or others can see, even though the condition itself may not be harmful," she explains. "I enjoy taking the time to listen to my patients' concerns and encourage them to take an active role in their own care."
After graduating summa cum laude from the University of New Mexico with a degree in biochemistry, Dr. Stevens earned a PhD in immunology before completing her medical degree cum laude at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Following her internship year at Baylor, she completed her dermatology residency at the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, serving as chief resident during her final year.
Dr. Stevens is board certified in dermatology. She joined Providence Medical Group in 2003 and has been the medical director of PMG Dermatology since 2007. She is active in the local dermatology community, participating regularly in a journal club with her peers. She has served as both secretary-treasurer and president of the Oregon Dermatology Society, and volunteers as a clinical assistant professor at the Oregon Health & Science University Department of Dermatology. Dr. Stevens has been listed as one of the Top Doctors in Dermatology by Portland Monthly magazine and has appeared on AM Northwest and other local news programs to talk about skin cancer, sun safety and skin care.
In her free time, Dr. Stevens enjoys running, swimming, gardening, reading and travel. She lives with her husband, daughter and son, as well as four tuxedo cats and a Greater Swiss Mountain dog. She is an active participant in the National Charity League Oregon Rose chapter and works regularly with several local nonprofit philanthropies throughout the Portland area.

The provider (not my regular) It was left me feeling very upset and uncomfortable. Due to surgery for my regular provider my annual appointment had been rescheduled out 6 months. Shortly before the appointment I was informed her return was occurring slower than expected. (I wholeheartedly understood this.) When it was suggested we wait til "next year" I felt uncomfortable. What had been an annual visit for YEARS would now be at 2 year point. I live alone and am 81 years old and concerned at the extended length of time between visits for a normal annual checkup. They reviewed my concerns and called to offer another physician to see me, which I appreciated. After this appointment I was told I only needed to come in every three years. I objected due to living alone so know one to "look" at me and my age. When I suggested at least every 2 years she told me she was putting me down as a 3 year check. This was not my regular physician of many years and I left feeling awkward and unsure what to do. I am very active and healthy and the last thing I want to do is skip an important annual skin checkup which might reveal something early which could be taken care of early. I don't understand why at 78 and 79 an annual appointment was justified, but at 81 all of a sudden a new physician thinks every 3 years Is enough. I would prefer to return to annual check ups when my regular physician of many many years is back to her normal schedule. But now I do not know if I even could as the "new one" says she has marked my record as a 3 year check. I am very upset to be honest.
