About David N. Counts
David has been fascinated by how things work since childhood, a curiosity that turned toward the human body after he was diagnosed with an arrhythmia in elementary school. As a young adult, a cardiology nurse practitioner took the time to explain his EKG, inspiring him to pursue a deeper understanding of heart rhythm disorders. After college, he worked in a heart rhythm clinic interpreting cardiac rhythms, an experience that solidified his clinical interests. David earned a BA in organizational communication and a BS in psychology from Washington State University, along with completing pre‑med prerequisites. He later attended Pacific University, graduating in 2011 with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. His early medical experience included volunteering as a first responder and EMT with his hometown’s rural fire department, which strengthened his commitment to patient care. For thirteen years, David worked as a physician associate in family medicine, where evaluating heart rhythm concerns has consistently been the highlight of his practice. He is now choosing to focus his full-time clinical work on cardiac arrhythmias. David believes his most important role as a healthcare provider is to listen. He strives to give patients space to share their stories, confident that attentive listening and thoughtful questions often reveal the key to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. David enjoys spending time with his family - his spouse and three daughters, as well as birdwatching, kayaking, hiking, reading and collecting pressed souvenir pennies.

David Counts was very patient and answered all the questions my daughters and I had. He took all the time we felt we needed to leave the office with a clear idea of what my care plan was.

This was a follow up appointment after a cardioversion in the ER. David was very thorough and patient and answered all my questions explaining all the tests I had done. He also gave me some very important information regarding a medication that I was taking.he also asked that I follow up on Monday to let him know how I was feeling. I would highly recommend David. He is very knowledgeable, courteous and takes the time to answer all my questions even though I know he was probably extremely busy as most doctors are. I even suggested to my sister who,has heart problems ,that she use Providence heart doctors.
