Amelia R. H. Baker, MD

Amelia Baker, MD, PhD, combines a curious mind and passion for science with a love of caring for people. A teacher in her former career, Dr. Baker shares, “I consider myself an educator at heart.” These qualities made family medicine an ideal fit. “Building relationships with patients is at the core of family medicine,” she says. “It is a privilege to gain patients’ trust and care for people from all backgrounds.”

In her practice, Dr. Baker loves caring for entire families, with a focus on maternity care (prenatal and deliveries), lactation and breastfeeding, as well as pediatric and adolescent medicine. Dr. Baker finds particular fulfillment in caring for patients at all stages of life. “I believe my most important role as a primary care physician is to get to know my patients as whole people, not just a list of conditions or symptoms,” she offers. “One of my favorite honors is to be introduced to patients even before they are born, through their prenatal care, join in the joy of births, and continue as their family doctor.”

Dr. Baker earned bachelor’s degrees in geology and educational studies from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She completed a doctoral degree in molecular medicine and immunology at Boston University, and her medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Baker completed her internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University Family Medicine.

An Ohio native, Dr. Baker spent her educational years in New England and now calls Portland home. “My family and I have fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest,” she shares. When not at work, she loves hiking, cycling, surfing, skiing, and gardening. When rainy Oregon days keep her indoors, Dr. Baker enjoys knitting, cooking, baking, and practicing yoga.
