About Hyder Z. Jamal
Dr. Jamal is a general gastroenterologist with additional training and expertise in liver diseases (hepatology). With the assistance of a nurse practitioner and dietician, Dr. Jamal leads the Liver Clinic which focuses on patients with complicated liver diseases that require more intensive management. This clinic has access to state of the art imaging, interventional radiologists, oncologists, and Hepatobiliary surgeons in order to provide truly comprehensive attention to our patients. A newly available technology called the Fibroscan will enhance our accuracy for assessing damage to the liver without having to do a liver biopsy.
Another passion of Dr. Jamal’s is the development of clinical research trials. This will open up new opportunities for our patients with specific GI diseases. Our most recent trials have been for the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis, constipation and patients with low platelets from cirrhosis of the liver.
Dr. Jamal is also our center’s expert for the treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition which can lead to esophageal cancer. He utilizes a technology called radiofrequency ablation and/or cryotherapy in order to eliminate the Barrett’s esophagus all through noninvasive means.
Dr. Jamal has a passion for teaching students, nurses and physicians. He is focused on providing compassionate care as part of a team of excellent physicians which is what keeps him glued to the St. Jude Heritage family.

Dr Jamal is and had experience on his Professional career. However, he seen like not willing to spend more time with patient who have concerns and need his guidance to look for another physician who can answer or help with the current medical need.

Dr. Jamal is such a kind mind. He is also a good listener, never seeming rushed or distracted. He is very "present." That is, he really focuses on the patient, asking questions, providing information, and discussing issues in a gentle-natured way. One of the best docs I've ever seen in my 61 years!

I liked Dr.Jsmal. I had my former gastoenterologust for 40 years and he has retired. You feel a little fragile when you have to switch but after seeing Dr Jsmal I think this is going to lead to a good relationship which when you have had the same doctor for 40 years is scary. I feel good about this new union.
