About Prithiv J. Prasad

As a board-certified infectious disease physician, Dr. Prasad enjoys caring for people from all walks of life. “My role is to get to the root of complex medical problems and maintain focus on treating people, rather than just diseases or test results,” he says. “I have a passion for providing high quality care that is evidence based, person centered and equitable.” Dr. Prasad has broad experience in infectious diseases and their complications, including HIV, bone and joint infections, post-surgical infections, tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections, travel-related infections, sexually transmitted infections and other complex infectious conditions. His work and education have taken him around the globe. While attending the Christian Medical College Vellore in India, Dr. Prasad developed an interest in providing equitable care for under-served populations. After earning his medical degree, he worked in a mission hospital, and then as a physician in Singapore, before moving to the United States to continue his training. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in infectious diseases at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York. After his fellowship, he joined the faculty as an attending physician at the NYU Langone Hospital and the Langone Orthopedic Hospital. Before joining Providence, Dr. Prasad served as the infectious disease specialist for the Multi-Drug Resistant TB program run by Partners In Health in Lesotho, Africa, where he lived and provided care for people with infections. He also served as a technical expert in infectious diseases for the country’s public health program against tuberculosis.
