About Alex D. Schafir
Alex Schafir, MD, has a patient-centered philosophy. "I help people define their own health issues and choose therapies that feel right to them," he says. "In primary care, the focus is prevention. I implement effective treatments early, and I protect people from unnecessary medical care."
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Schafir graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Washington. He is dedicated to medical education.
He and his wife have traveled all over the world, though travel is more challenging nowadays, thanks to their children. Outside of work, you might find him sea kayaking with his wife, seeking out live jazz, traveling to far places, or unicycling with his two kids.

I felt heard and understood
Providence Patient
The provider was not a listener. I was often interrupted with phrases like "hear me out", and I never got to explain my situation or ask my questions. He was 45 minutes late so obviously was in a hurry and anxious to get to his next station. "Let's wrap things up". Overall an unpleasant experience, but he was a substitute for my regular provider so I don't expect to see him again.
Providence Patient
Dr Schafir is very thorough and takes the time to listen and respond. I feel very confident that he cares about my health and provides detailed information so I make informed choices about care.
