Alexander Hartzell, MD

Alexander Hartzell is a Resident Internal Medicine Provider at Providence Primary Care - Northeast Portland. Alex was born in Walla Walla, WA and grew up primarily in the Pacific Northwest. His family moved many times and he also spent time in places as diverse as Colorado, Arkansas, North Dakota, and Nairobi, Kenya where his parents worked as missionaries. He attended Walla Walla University and earned a degree in Biology, followed by his medical degree. Alex's biggest passion in medicine is lifestyle and preventative medicine. He has been involved in numerous research opportunities throughout medical school involving healthy living and its impact on longevity and quality of life. Alex worked with a group of peers to update the Loma Linda University Hospital inpatient menu to provide more nutritious options that aid in the healing process. He also researched the barriers that patients with chronic kidney disease face when making lifestyle changes. Alex spends his time away from work with his wife and baby daughter. He enjoys playing basketball, hiking, camping, reading, and spending time with family. Alex is eager to be home again in the Pacific Northwest as a member of the PPMC resident team.
