About Bryan D. Thieme
Dr. Bryan Thieme has been interested in behavioral health ever since he took his first psychology class in high school. “During that class, I was exposed to the works of Dr. Oliver Sacks, who famously wrote about astounding, and occasionally bizarre, neurological syndromes,” Dr. Thieme says. “I was drawn to clinical neuropsychology, in particular, because it perfectly paired my interests in the brain and behavior with the art of working with others therapeutically.” As a clinical neuropsychologist, Dr. Thieme primarily provides comprehensive evaluations of a person’s cognitive and behavioral functioning. “These evaluations can help patients and medical providers by confirming or clarifying diagnoses, informing treatment decisions (e.g., surgical candidacy), and/or establishing a profile of mental strengths and weaknesses,” he explains. While Dr. Thieme sees adults with a wide array of medical conditions, he has particular interest and expertise with dementia, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury populations. “In my clinical practice I strive to be collaborative, compassionate, and science-based with the overarching goal of improving my patients’ quality of life.” Dr. Thieme finds the ability to collaborate with patients and other health care providers to effect meaningful change in a person’s life both stimulating and highly rewarding. Born and raised in the Seattle area, Dr. Thieme moved to Oregon for graduate school. It was during this time that he met his future spouse, who is also a psychologist. They were both thrilled when the opportunity came about to move back to Portland after their post-doctoral training was over. Having now lived in other parts of the country, Dr. Thieme knows that the pacific Northwest will always be his home. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, cycling, cooking and spending time with his wife and their pets.
