About Susan D. Payne
Susan Payne, M.D., believes that establishing a caring and trusting relationship with her patients is her most important role as a primary care provider. "It's not enough to deliver quality care in and of itself," she says. "By taking the time to listen and educate my patients, they understand that I care about them receiving the best possible medical advice and attention."
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Payne earned her medical degree at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center and for five years was a member of the clinical faculty at Stanford University's School of Medicine in Palo Alto, Calif. Outside of the office, Dr. Payne enjoys time with her husband, a real estate investment advisor, and their two daughters. She also enjoys long-distance cycling, running and alpine skiing or curling up with a good novel.

5 stars...very happy with care
Providence Patient
Doctor Payne is by five the best OB/GYN I would argue in the region and probably in the nation. She is impeccable at caring for her patience, answering their questions and slowing down to ensure that every patient feels seen and heard. You can tell that she puts care into every patient. I am at all that I got the opportunity to be her patient over these last three years with my three pregnancies

Very caring, listened and understood! Was not rushed at all a great experience.
Providence Patient
Dr. Payne is a thoughtful listener and is someone who understands me and my communication style. She never discounts or brushes past what I report, even though I tend to just casually say something. This has helped immensely to improve my quality of life through the many years she has been my doctor. I cannot thank her enough. I notice a lower quality of care when I do not get to have an appointment with Dr. Payne for an exam. It's not that the other providers are not qualified, but the intuition and understanding from the appointment lacks. It takes a while for me, and most people, to develop a level of trust, especially with sensitive to talk about issues and body parts. I also am not the type of person to make an appointment for individual issues throughout the year. I don't think they are issues until I'm sharing with Dr. Payne, or I tend to just suffer with them, and she helps me to value myself and try and correct. I am a strong advocate of having all my appointments with Dr. Payne, even though others could easily do an annual exam. For me it's not "just" an annual exam. Dr. Payne provides me so much more. (Got a little off topic there, but there you go.)
Providence Patient
Dr. Payne is wonderful! She's caring, considerate, listens and works with the patient to devise a care plan. She scheduled my surgery to remove a cervical polyp when I was on a tight timeline, even though it meant after regular work hours. She's priceless!
Providence Patient
Dr Payne is extremely knowledgeable and very kind to her patients. I appreciate having her care and always sing her praises to others.
