About Steven M. Olsen

Steven Olsen, M.D., enjoys the challenges and rewards practicing medicine has to offer. "It enables the development of unique bonds with patients and coworkers, and creates lifetime of ongoing learning," said Dr. Olsen. He believes that the key to providing good health care is to first understand the patient's concerns and health care goals, then develop a care plan in partnership with the patient. "I believe better health is best achieved when physicians create health care plans that are integrated with the patient's lifestyle and expectations," he said. "As a physician, I am humbled and honored when patients place their trust and wellbeing in my hands."

Dr. Olsen specializes in ear, nose and throat care, or otolaryngology. His subspecialty interests are treatment of head and neck cancers - including skin cancer - and diseases of the thyroid, salivary glands, and the nose, mouth and throat. He is very interested in pediatric otolaryngology - including airway evaluations and evaluation and treatment of tonsil and ear disease. He also specializes in sinus disease and sinus surgery, and performs balloon sinuplasty procedures.

Dr. Olsen practices the entire range of otolaryngology, including evaluation and treatment of ear disease, rhinologic issues, swallowing and voice disorders, and facial plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Olsen graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in biology, and earned his medical degree from OHSU. He studies otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the Mayo Clinic where he completed his residency.

He relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2012 and has been happily practicing otolaryngology at Providence since that time. Originally from Rochester, Minn., Dr. Olsen loves the outdoors and northwest cuisine. He and his wife Molly Olsen, M.D., an internal medicine physician, are enjoying the Columbia Gorge with their two children.
