About Ryan M. Wallace

Dr. Wallace is a psychiatrist and fellowship-trained addiction psychiatrist. He earned a combined MD, MPH degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Wallace rotated throughout Alaska during medical school, immediately connecting to the state's unique cultural and geographic diversity. Next, he went to Yale University for psychiatry residency, an addiction psychiatry fellowship, and served as an assistant professor – teaching Yale fellows, residents, and medical students. His research interests included examining the therapeutic potential of psilocybin and exploring the impact of anabolic-androgenic steroids in a population of patients prescribed methadone for opioid use disorder. He now serves as a faculty member at AKFMR, is program director for the Alaska Addiction Medicine Fellowship, and is the medical director of the Breakthrough Substance Use Treatment Program at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Dr. Wallace is passionate about working with and empowering individuals who use substances, utilizing and teaching harm reduction, engaging and learning from community members, and serving the residents of the great state of Alaska.
