About Raul Marquez

Dr. Rudy Marquez was born and raised in Fresno, California. He attended the University of California, at Berkeley and graduated in 1992. He received a B.A. in Psychology. He then attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his M.D. degree in May 1997.

Following medical school, he performed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center from 1997 to 2000. Afterwards, he was accepted into the Pulmonary/Critical Care program at LAC-USC. During his fellowship, he conducted research in the field of lung transplantation. His focus was on the Living Lobar Lung transplantation program. The patient would receive one lobe of a lung on both sides from two different living donors. Dr. Marquez showed that the patients had good exercise tolerance compatible with patients that had received whole cadaveric lung transplants. He completed his fellowship in June 2003.

Following LAC-USC, Dr. Marquez was recruited by Dr. Tammelin at Mission Internal Medical Group to join their expanding pulmonary department. In 2004, he was elected to be a fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Marquez has been very active in the Medical Staff Leadership of Mission Hospital and Mission Internal Medical Group. Starting with Mission Hospital, from 2006 to 2009, he was the chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Following this role, he was elected to be the Chair of Medicine in 2009. In 2010 and 2011, he continued in leadership by being the Secretary-Treasurer and then Chief of Staff-elect.

In 2012, he was honored to be the Chief of Staff of Mission Hospital, where he continued to maintain the high quality and standards of the medical staff. Following this role, he is the current Chair of Critical Care Medicine. In addition, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2012.

In Mission Internal Medical Group, he was on the Board of Directors from 2006 to 2014 and was the President of the group from 2010 to 2014. During his presidency, he oversaw the transition of the group into the St. Joseph Health System. He is the current Medical Director of Mission Heritage Medical Group since 2014.

Dr. Marquez is board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. His interests include asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis.
