Providence St. Joseph Hospital Named to U.S. News World Report 2022-2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care

Providence St. Joseph Hospital has been named a 2022-2023 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report, the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

For the 2022-23 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated nearly 650 hospitals across the United States that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication for analysis. Fewer than 300 hospitals received a High Performing designation, which is the highest award a hospital can earn in maternity care.

Providence St. Joseph expert team includes board-certified obstetricians available 24/7 and compassionate and skilled nurses to provide support, care and education for our patients. The hospital partners with CHOC Children’s to provide a 13-bed, Level 2 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Should a problem develop during delivery, CHOC’s neonatal team is immediately available to stabilize the baby and begin treatment as necessary.

According to Michelle Genova, Chief Nursing Officer, Providence St. Joseph, “Our team is honored to receive this award. Every year we have more than 4000 births at Providence St. Joseph we work hard to ensure that each one is special, unique and safe. This is a recognition of our team’s commitment to providing high-quality care and support to moms and babies in a safe and family-friendly environment.”

The highly awarded Providence St. Joseph Women’s Services offers a modern approach to delivery and works with a patient’s OBGYN to develop a unique and safe birth plan that fits mothers’ and babies’ unique needs. Education and support are offered before, during and after pregnancy.

The High Performing designation recognizes maternity care as measured by factors such as newborn complication rates and is designed to assist expectant parents and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. U.S. News’ methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, including C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast-feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) rates, and other measures.

Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor at U.S. News, said, “When expectant parents are considering their options for welcoming a baby to the world, the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in delivering babies for uncomplicated pregnancies. A hospital that has earned a High Performing designation may be a good option for parents, in consultation with their medical provider, to consider.”
