Earthquake update for our hospitals in Humboldt County

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been impacted by the earthquake in Humboldt County. Thankfully, we did not see an increase in visits to our emergency departments at Providence St. Joseph Hospital and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital as a result of the earthquake. Minor injuries have been reported related to incidents associated with broken glass; in addition to slips, trips and falls due to fallen furniture in homes.

Our hospitals lost power shortly after the earthquake and our generators immediately turned on to provide power. PGE restored power to St. Joseph Hospital on Tuesday afternoon and power returned to Redwood Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon.

We have resumed our elective surgery schedule at St. Joseph Hospital and will seek to begin elective surgeries at Redwood Memorial Hospital as soon as possible. 

So that we can best meet the needs of our community, we once again kindly remind everyone to utilize our emergency departments for emergent care only.

For those still in need of overnight resources, the Red Cross overnight shelter has been established in Fortuna. Services include stay, meals, hydration and electronic charging. Location: Fireman’s Pavilion at Rohner Park, 9 Park St. For more information, the community can call (707) 506-5083.
