Providence celebrates the life, legacy and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday, January 16, 2023 marks 40 years since Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was signed into law as a federal holiday.

On Monday, January 16, 2023, Providence Swedish joins the nation in celebrating and honoring the life, legacy and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This call to action, along with Dr. King’s principles and philosophies, undergird our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion – challenging us as individuals to take an active role in creating positive change.

Across the Providence Swedish family of organizations, our goal and vision are to create health for a better world. This commitment includes prioritizing health equity for all and seeking to actively create a world where each person has the chance to live their healthiest life. Dr. King’s words and actions align with our vision and values in ways that ground and guide our work, as we continue journeying towards these goals.

This year marks 40 years since Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was signed into law as a federal holiday. Designated as a day of service, it is considered a day on rather than a day off  to create solutions to social problems and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a “beloved community.” Today, wherever you’re celebrating, we encourage you to take this opportunity to pause, reflect and consider how we can all live out the meaning behind this important day.

Thank you,
