Providence St. Vincent Medical Center named one of America's 50 best hospitals

PORTLAND, Ore. – Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is proud to announce it has received the top achievement from Healthgrades - the 2023 America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award. This recognition places Providence St. Vincent among the top 1% of the country's hospitals. The award is based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services showing patient outcomes for the most common conditions and procedures. This is the third consecutive year Providence St. Vincent is among America’s best. Providence St. Vincent is the only hospital in Oregon to achieve this recognition three years in a row, and one of only 39 hospitals nation-wide.

“For Providence St. Vincent to be recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals three times in a row during a global pandemic speaks to the expertise, commitment and determination of all our caregivers and providers,” said hospital chief executive Jennifer Burrows, RN. “We’ve created a culture in which excellence and compassionate care is expected, and this is why our patients and community hold us in high regard. Our high reliability culture values every caregiver’s voice and encourages people to speak up if something doesn’t seem right.”

From 2019-2021, Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top- performing hospitals. This year’s analysis revealed significant variation between America’s Best 50 Hospitals and hospitals that did not receive the distinction. In fact, if all hospitals performed similarly to America’s 50 Best, more than 150,000 lives could potentially have been saved.

“As one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center consistently delivers better-than-expected outcomes for the patients in their community and is setting a high national standard for clinical excellence,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades.

"I am so proud of our caregivers and providers and the outstanding work they do every day, " said Raymond Moreno, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. "This recognition is particularly meaningful during this surge of winter viruses and high patient volumes. Quality and safety have never been more important - to both our patients and caregivers."
