Airlifted from his farm, a patient receives stroke care at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center

Dave Lohman was driving his tracker with his brother-in-law in Rosalia, Washington when he suddenly lost all feeling on his left side of his body, crashing into his barn. His brother called 911 right away and Life Flight Network rushed Dave to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Doctors determined he had atrial fibrillation, where the heart went into rapid heart rhythm and the blood was not able to pump throughout the body. This resulted in a stroke.

That's when Dr. Jayson Brower, an Inland Imaging physician affiliated with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, stepped in.

He was able to use a stent and suction device to successfully remove the clot by entering through the blood vessel in the hip bone to the brain.

“I am very fortunate the staff worked as fast as they did to save my life,” said Dave.

You never know when this is going to happen to someone you know – even if you’re the one saving a life. Dr. Brower and Dave have been friends for 16 years.

“We have a great coordinated stroke program at Sacred Heart. It's been the culmination of staff working together for years,” said Dr. Brower. “It’s important to realize no one could do it on their own, and it's been a community priority for stroke care to be here for everyone.”
