Providence Oregon hospitals honored by Practice Greenhealth

PROVIDENCE OREGON – Together, Oregon’s hospitals took home 19 awards in the nation’s premier recognition program for environmental performance in health care, including leadership in “Greening the OR,” waste, and water.  

As a whole, the Providence family of organizations received an all-time high of 53 awards in Practice Greenhealth’s Environmental Excellence Awards, announced May 16. This includes 29 awarded ministries and two system achievement awards. Hundreds of Providence caregivers worked on these awards gathering data, telling stories and celebrating successes. Congratulations to these ministries on their achievements!

Providence St. Vincent: Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center was recognized with Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor for hospitals. The top 25 hospitals are leading the industry in all-around sustainability performance, demonstrating comprehensive programs, and are illustrating how sustainability is entrenched in their organizational culture. Each year, the competition for these top spots increases, as hospitals across the country continue to innovate.

Circle of Excellence celebrates the hospitals which have not only earned an award for all around sustainability achievement, but who have also been identified as the top ten scoring programs for each category of sustainability.

Greening the OR Leadership Award recognizes the organization demonstrating the most success and leading innovation in reducing the environmental impact of its surgical suites. Operating rooms are large contributors to a health care facility’s environmental footprint, creating opportunity for significant cost savings and sustainability improvements.
