About Harikrishna J. Makani
Dr. Makani is a board certified Interventional Cardiologist with a strong background in the field of Hypertension, Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thick heart muscle disease), stress echocardiography and advanced interventional cardiology techniques. An internationally-recognized name in the field of hypertension, he has authored or co-authored more than 50 journal publications, book chapters and abstract publications in top medical journals like Journal of American College of Cardiology, British Medical Journal and European Heart Journal. Dr. Makani has also received numerous awards like Young Investigator Award in American Society of Hypertension meeting, Best research award at Annual research fair award at St. Luke’s Roosevelt hospital to name a few, for his research accomplishments. His research focus mirrors his clinical practice: He looks at care of patients with hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart attack or chest pain, heart failure, complex angioplasties and peripheral vascular disease. A specialist in cutting-edge minimally invasive procedures, such as transradial angioplasty to treat coronary artery disease, Dr. Makani offers procedures that, while still less common at many U.S. hospitals, promise quicker recovery compared to standard methods. For example, he performs transradial angioplasty, which uses a patient’s wrist instead of the groin as the incision point and has a much lower rate of bleeding and faster recovery time. Dr. Makani is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology and Echocardiography and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation.

Dr. Makanii has been my cardiologist for many years. He listens to my concerns about chest pains and heart racing.He recommended appropriate tests. I ended up with A-Fib. Dr. Makani then prescribed the right medication. This prevented surgery at this time.Dr. Makani Is a caring physician. Dr had a pre conceived determination of what was wrong with my heart. The tests however show some concerns and they were not discussed with me at all. I was able to pull my chart as well and view my results that are not being addressed or looked into. Dr said " your fine be happy ". It was a very pushed off visit and my husband was in my company. We are both truly concerned with my results and what they show.

Superb care by staff and physician. Once I am through intake (weight, BP, Oxy) always quick turnaround to when I am seen by the doctor. I requested medication refills and was notified by my pharmacy the request had been received (within 1/2 hour of my visit). I brought a friend to the visit and when the doctor came in, he asked which one of us was [Name(s)] It was my fourth visit. I received conflicting reports that caused me a great deal of anxiety, and that's why I wanted to talk to him. At my previous visit, he had only given me the results of one test, not both.. I thought he was hostile over the fact that I I need to know about the report he had not told me about. He said I didn't need to know because it was wrong. He did not explain to me why it was wrong. However, he did refer me to a different doctor and I was able to get the test much sooner.
