Liya Kuruvilla, PAC

Liya became a physician assistant because the role allowed her to combine her love for science with helping people. It also provided the flexibility she desired and offered many opportunities to build meaningful connections with patients. She chose cardiology because it is challenging, fast-paced, and because she truly connected with the science behind it. She was admitted into a direct-entry program for physician assistant sciences at Gannon University immediately after high school. This program enabled her to complete a 3 + 2.5-year accelerated track, earning her PA degree efficiently. During her clinical year, Liya completed a rotation in cardiology and subsequently secured her first position in the specialty at the same hospital in February 2020. As a PA, Liya believes one of the most important responsibilities is dedicating time to patient education. Cardiology can be particularly overwhelming for patients, so she prioritizes helping them understand their condition and care plan. Originally from Chicago, Liya's move to the Pacific Northwest provided better access to outdoor activities. She and her husband enjoy hiking, camping, and the occasional visit to wine country.
