Raymond H. M. Schaerf, MD

Dr. Raymond Schaerf, board certified in thoracic surgery, received his medical education from New York Medical College. His residencies were completed at the University of Miami Hospital and Yale New Haven Medical Center. His fellowship was completed at the University of Miami Medical Center. He is affiliated with the Heart Rhythm Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Academic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Heart Association. Only a handful of physicians in the world routinely perform lead extraction surgery. Dr. Schaerf was among the first in the world to perform lead extraction surgery using an excimer laser. To date, he has removed more than 1,300 leads, which makes him one of the most experienced lead extraction specialists in the world. Besides his large practice with pacemakers and defibrillators, Dr. Schaerf has one of the largest practices in thoracic surgery for lung diseases in Southern California. Dr. Schaerf speaks Spanish, French and German. Dr. Schaerf is a member of the Providence Saint Joseph, Providence Holy Cross and Providence Tarzana Medical Staffs providing care in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.
