About Michael C. Tan
When Dr. Tan was a teenager, his mother was stricken with cancer. Her diagnosis, compassionate care and successful treatment, he recalls, “showed me the impact that medical practitioners have on the lives of patients and families and turned my interest toward a life in medical service.” Today, as a cardiac electrophysiologist, he says, “My most important role is to be a true ‘care’-giver.” Education, collaboration and shared decision-making are central to Dr. Tan’s approach. “Medical conditions can bring uncertainty and fear,” he says. “By helping my patients understand their conditions and the treatments available to them, I hope to restore their sense of control over their lives.” Dr. Tan completed his undergraduate studies, medical degree, internship and residency at the University of Washington. He completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease at Texas Heart Institute and in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at the Baylor College of Medicine at Texas Heart Institute. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Originally from Bellingham, Wash., Dr. Tan is an avid sports fan who enjoys weightlifting, cycling and staying active in general. In his free time, he can be found exploring Portland’s amazing neighborhoods and restaurants.

I have a irregular heart beat and AFiB etc at times and we discussed all my medical options and made a plan to get me fixed up. He was easy to deal with and very nice to me and explained all my options and listened to my concerns and helped with them as best as he could. Very happy I found him.

This was my firsf appointment with Dr Tan. He obviously read my chart, talked with my care team. He explained the treatment and purpose of the "watchman." He fully explained My conditions And how installing the watchmen could improve my chance of not getting clots in the brain and also why the change to Eliquis was needed, And the importance of not missing any doses of Eliquis before the watchmen was installed. He also explained the other conditions in my heart that could reduce somewhat some benefits. What he did was explain fully to me what would help what would lower a little bit and everything I needed to know and it was a lot to take in, but he explained it well and told me I should think over everything that was said and in talk with my Nurse friend Who is my second pair of ears and could retain everything that was said help me and remembering and to research anything I needed. Dr. Tandon an excellent job. I've explaining everything and the rest and benefits and so I know that my decision will be a good one.

I recently moved to Portland.This was my first visit with Dr. Tan. He knew my medical history better than I anticipated. He had clearly studied my records. He listened carefully, asked good questions, and responded meaningfully to my concerns. He suggested we dig further into my medical history to confirm a diagnosis I've been taking for granted for a decade.
