About Sylvia M. Peterson-Perry
Languages: conversational German and conversational Spanish
Dr. Peterson-Perry chose to become a doctor when she realized that her interests in health, social justice, and forming therapeutic relationships all intersected in medicine. “Family medicine was a clear fit for me,” she says. “I love caring for multiple generations of families, and for individuals throughout their lifespans, from newborns to 100-year-olds.” One of the most rewarding aspects of being a doctor, she says, is “empowering patients to achieve their health goals and celebrating their successes, big and small.”
While she enjoys all aspects of family medicine, some of her special interests include reproductive health and family planning, gynecology and obstetrics, LGBTQ health and gender-affirming care, addiction medicine, chronic disease management and chronic pain management. Whatever issues arise, she meets patients where they are and develops individualized care plans that consider the best available evidence, the risks and benefits of tests and treatments, and the important interplay of physical and mental health. In addition, she says, “I always emphasize shared decision-making. As the patient, you know your body and life best.”
Dr. Peterson-Perry is board certified in family medicine. After attending Stanford University, she earned her medical degree at Oregon Health and Science University and completed her internship and residency at Swedish First Hill Family Medicine in Seattle.
A Portland Native, she loves playing and watching soccer, and is a huge Thorns and Timbers fan. Her other interests include cross-country skiing, hiking, camping and backpacking in the Pacific Northwest with her spouse and their rescue dachshund-mix.

Providence Patient
My doctor is the best I've ever been to. I have only seen her twice (once virtually and once in person.) From those two times I can honestly say she is amazing. It felt like I was with a friend. She was incredibly personable and that's not something I found with most doctors. She listened and I didn't feel rushed. She seemed like she genuinely cared. Nothing was awkward. She explained everything she was doing. I also appreciate that the office let me tell them my weight instead of forcing me to use the scale. Please keep Dr. Peterson-Perry around! She's seriously amazing! I hope to have a long-standing relationship at this office. Thank you!
