About Tess E. M. Ish-Shalom
“I believe we can promote health best when we understand the whole person,” says Dr. Ish-Shalom. She chose family medicine as her specialty for that reason. In her practice, she focuses on educating and empowering patients to improve their health and well-being. “It’s an honor to provide care for several generations of the same family,” she says. She particularly enjoys women’s health, newborn care and elder care.
As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, Dr. Ish-Shalom also practices osteopathic manual medicine to address musculoskeletal issues and headaches. In addition to seeing patients of all ages, she adds, “My office will always be a safe space for members of the queer community and patients of diverse sizes.”
A graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Ish-Shalom attended medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Northwest in Lebanon, Ore. She completed her internship and residency with Central Washington Family Medicine, and is board certified in family medicine.
When away from work, she says, “Time with my family and in nature is what nourishes my heart.” She loves playing and reading with her children, cooking as “a decent sous chef” with her husband, and catching up with old friends on weekends. She also seeks out yoga classes that challenge her body and focus her mind.

Dr. Ish Shalom is an incredible physician. She genuinely cares about her patients and takes the time needed. In a healthcare world that has started prioritizing metrics and timelines over patient care, Dr. Ish Shalom adheres to her values and ensures each person gets the care they need. I worked for Providence in the past and a lot has changed. What I see In Dr. Ish Shalom aligns strongly with the original Providence mission - Know Me, Care for Me, Ease My Way. We need more like her. I was hesitant to seek a pcp with Providence upon my return to Oregon because many times I'd received some form of the following: "that wasn't listed as a reason for this visit and we don't have time to discussyou will need to make another appointment." My opinion is that contradicts what healthcare is supposed to be. Dr. Ish Shalom is phenomenal and I could not ask for a better pcp.
