About Benjamin D. Houser
Benjamin Houser, MD, decided to go into family medicine and primary care when he was in medical school. “I saw in family medicine the opportunity to care for the whole patient,” says Dr. Houser. “To care for patients from the moment they are born well into their elder years, through happiness and sadness, and major life events.”
The most enjoyable thing about being a medical provider, according to Dr. Houser, is being allowed the privilege of being a part of his patient's personal lives. He truly enjoy the close connections he has with his patients and finds joy every day in knowing that he has the opportunity to have a meaningful impact in their lives.
“My role as a provider is to serve as a navigator for my patients, to help them identify and achieve their health care goals,” he says. “For each individual person, this goal may be different, but it is my role to help my patients achieve theirs.”
He feels that a philosophy of a team based approach to care with the patient at the center is important. He’s fortunate to be a part of a fantastic team that partners closely with our patients to provide the best care possible.
Dr. Houser earned his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University and completed his internship and residency with Providence Oregon Family Medicine Residency, Milwaukie. He also holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon in Biochemistry.
Born and raised in the Portland metro area Dr. Houser has lived in Oregon his entire life. He enjoys several hobbies including outdoor activities like hiking, camping, backpacking, and cross-country skiing. He especially enjoys running and has participated in many local events with his wife.

Explained the reasons for the recommended medication and discussed possible side effects. Advised me to monitor my blood pressure at home and follow up with him via my chart to ensure I am getting effective results.

He is extremely attentive and present with a wonderful bedside manner. The only drawback for me is the same one I have with most Doctors educated in the West. That is to say, they are taught to prescribe a drug rather than offer natural remedy solutions. Preventive medicine and food as medicine do not seem to be prevalent in this field. Having said that, I still feel very strongly that he is an excellent Dr.

This was my first visit, so many of your questions did not exactly apply, but I answered as best I could. Dr. Houser was professional, friendly, and tried to cover as much as we could in this first appointment. I have way too many issues to cover in one appointment. I have made several subsequent requests on MY chart -prescriptions and referrals, so I am waiting to see the response level. It has only been one day and nothing yet but I was not expecting a one-day response. We will have to see. I think I will have much better feedback after another appt or 2, but I do feel Dr. Houser seems to be a very capable, caring, and friendly Doctor.

This was my first visit with Dr. Houser after relocating from Florida. I was very impressed with him.
